Quote of the day – Thursday April 30, 2009

“To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intellingent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived – this is to have succeeded.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

The ‘E’ word

Since I was about 14yrs old I’ve lived by this motto quite vigorously:

Every time I think about exercise
I lie down ’til the thought goes away

This is why a certain moment of my day was rather disturbing… My youngest goes to an exercise class run by a physical therapist because she needs some help building stabilization in her lower back and legs. My oldest child was there with us as well today. When it was almost finished the girls wanted to try a treadmill and the physio – nice as she is – helped them get on it. This is when it happened… my mind actually thought: “I want to go on there too!”

I SHOULD! But I have NEVER been motivated for it. I honestly hate it with a passion… Maybe I have a shot now though… I’m working with a physical therapist at the moment myself. Realizing that chronic bursitis in my hips and a neck injury is now – after years of using the wrong muscles for the wrong thing – causing inflammation in both my arms. It seems the only thing that will correct this problem is to start training the right muscles :S I’m not getting any younger (not that I’m all that old, but still) and I certainly don’t need to have the physique and energy of an 80yr old by the time I turn 40.

Stay tuned… maybe I’ll turn into one of these nutjobs after all:
